Cricket Ground Pool
Map
General Information
The Cricket Ground pool is about 1.75 acres in size. It is fed by two main inlets, one at the entrance and one at middle drain. The pool can be generally thought of in two halves. The half nearest the entrance up the middle drain (peg 9) is the shallower part of the pool which depths rarely exceeding 6ft. The other half is the deeper end with depths topping 8ft in places. This end of the pool is also slightly wider than the shallow end. There are reed beds at each end of the pool, creating some excellent swims in the summer. There is also, in the summer, large beds of lily pads which are between many pegs. There are 40 pegs on the pool, with the pegs nearest the entrance being easily accessible and clear of obstructions, making them ideal for disabled anglers. This pool is noted in the local area to produce good bags of fish in the winter, when other waters have switched off. |

Known Species
The pool is most definitely a mixed coarse fishery. There are massive shoals of small roach, gudgeon, and perch, which can be caught on the most basic of tackle, ideal for new comers to the sport. There are also big shoals of skimmer bream with the odd larger bream thrown in. The pool is also known for its tench fishing, producing some fish to over 6lb. The better carp have been caught to 24lb+, although the majority being between 7-14lb. These are backed up by around 600 small carp (stocked at average 1.75lb) which were introduced in late 2007. There are a few pike around up to 22lb, although these are only usually caught in the depths of winter, because for most of the year, it wouldn't be long before a meal passes over its nose.
Extra Rules/Conditions
Because of overhead power cables, the first 3 pegs on each side, near the entrance have had to be closed. Signs are displayed at the pool giving the exact details.
Directions and Parking
The pool is based on the Knypersley Sports club complex. This can be found between Knypersley traffic lights and Mill Hayes sports ground on the A527. Parking is on the club car park.
