Havelock Pool

Map

General Information

This pool is the smaller of the two on the site being approx half the size of Victoria Pool and in a kind of triangular shape. The pool is fed by a stepped channel direct from the Victoria Pool. The pool is less matured than Victoria although several sets of lily pad roots were planted in summer 2005, which we hope will provide cover for the fish. Havelock is set slightly lower on the bank side than Victoria providing extra cover from the winds. As far as depths are concerned, the pool is quite shallow in the margins with the deepest area 8ft in the centre of the lake. The pool isn't as popular as Victoria , but is better suited to the less experienced angler.

Known Species

As with Victoria Pool, the main stock is carp. Average weight is 4lb, although there are some known to be into double figures. Also in autumn 2003, 800 small carp (average - 3 inches long)

were added to the existing stock to give a new strain of carp and improve catches further. These are putting on approx 1lb a year. Along with the carp, are some tench, bream and roach. And for those anglers who just want to catch, there are thousands of perch and gudgeon that will fight for a maggot. This pool however has the highest density of carp making it the easiest pool in the club to catch one.

Extra Rules/Conditions

Night fishing is allowed on these pools, although anyone who does night fish, must help to bailiff the waters by checking any other anglers permit.

A key is required to access the car park. They are available at a cost price of £2 from monthly committee meetings. However, parking is available on the road.

Directions and Parking

The easiest way to get to the pools is from Knypersley Sports Club, turn left onto the A527. Just after entering Brindley Ford, on the right is the New Black Bull pub. Immediately after the pub, take a right turn. The pools are now on your right. To get to the car park, take the first right just before the farm. Follow this road into and out of a dip in the road. Just after coming out of the dip, the car park is on the right hand side. The pool is a short walk past Victoria Pool and down a short bank.
