Winter Carping on the Opencast by Keiran Lear

It was a cold winters day when I went up Opencast with my uncle. I was using ten pound fox line on my daiwa reels and I had 2 fox warrior carp rods with a 2.5lb test curve. I cast my bait out in to the middle of thee pool using a ledgered Kryston Snake Bite hair rig with tutti fruitty paste attached to the end. I put my casted out rods on my fox bite alarms which had fox swingers attached to them for maximum indication. I then put my bivvy up to keep me warm as it was a really windy day. About 30 minutes later I had a run. I ran out of the bivvy to my left rod, lifted up and I had one on, so my uncle got the 36in landing net and the unhooking mat and landed the fish. He ran and got the scales and then weighed the common carp. It was a good fish and weighed 6lb 4oz. That was my best way to do winter carping.

Later on, I had a couple more bites but they were just little ones. My uncle changed bait to sweet corn and not long after had a bream hooked but it sadly dropped off just short of the landing net.

By 4.30pm it was time for home, so we packed away our tackle and my uncle gave me the gate key to open the gate, so I got out the car and opened it and then i closed it and locked it behind me. I jumped back into the car and we went home.
