Victoria Pool

Map

General Information

The pool is situated on the same site as the Havelock Pool. They are the newest to the area, being opened in the 1995/96 season. The Victoria Pool is the bigger of the two being about 1 acre in size and in a rectangular shape. The pool is fed by a small stream which flows down to Havelock pool and continues on through Brindley Ford. The pool seems to be steadily maturing. Reed beds stretch down the right and bottom banks of the pool creating excellent cover for the fish. More reeds and some lily pads have also been recently planted. The rest of the pool is fairly open though and can be a nightmare is strong winds. As far as depths are concerned, the pool is quite shallow in the margins with the deepest areas rarely exciting 10ft in the centre of the lake. This pool is not as picturesque as perhaps the Serpentine Lake or Mill Hayes Pool, but the quality and ease of fishing definitely makes up for it.

Known Species

Victoria pools main stock is carp. Average weight is 6lb, although there are some known to be over 20lb. Also in autumn 2003, 1200 small carp (average - 3 inches long) were added to the existing stock to give a new strain of carp and improve catches further. Along with the carp, are some good tench, bream and roach which grow to a good size. And for those anglers who just want to catch, there are thousands of perch and gudgeon that will fight for a maggot.

 Extra Rules/Conditions

Night fishing is allowed on this pool, although anyone who does night fish, must help to bailiff the water by checking any other anglers permit. A key is also required to access the car park. They are available at a cost price of £2 from monthly committee meetings. However, parking is available on the road.

Directions and Parking

The easiest way to get to the pools is from Knypersley Sports Club, turn left onto the A527. Just after entering Brindley Ford, on the right is the New Black Bull pub. Immediately after the pub, take a right turn. The pools are now on your right. To get to the car park, take the first right just before the farm. Follow this road into and out of a dip in the road. Just after coming out of the dip, the car park is on the right hand side. The pool is immediately just to the left of the car park.
